Since its founding, the Republic of Turkey has continuously faced threats of rebellion, uprisings, and terrorism. Initially, in the early years of the Republic, separatist and anti-secular threats primarily took the form of uprisings and revolts, but over time, they have transformed. Turkey has encountered nearly every type of terrorism, including ethnic, separatist, ideological, and radical religious terrorism. In response, the Republic of Turkey has been diligently fighting terrorism for decades. While security forces and other relevant state institutions work to maintain security, Turkish academia has also begun more comprehensive and systematic studies on terrorism. This book delves into the issue of terrorism in Turkey and the various facets of Turkey's fight against it. The book aims to understand how the processes of terrorism and counter-terrorism have shaped the Republic’s century-long proud history. It features unique studies on terrorism research in Turkey, the multifaceted battle against the PKK and ASALA terrorist organizations, and Turkey’s efforts against religiously motivated and radical revolutionary terrorism.
